HaLong Rum was founded by Giang Nguyen, a Vietnamese entrepreneur from Quảng Ninh with a long-standing connection to Ha Long and a deep belief in the value of Vietnam's land, culture and local craftsmanship.
Her vision did not begin with the idea of simply creating another rum brand. It began with a larger question: why should Vietnam's agricultural ingredients remain known mainly as raw materials when they have the potential to become refined, high-value products with their own identity?
Sugarcane became the starting point. Vietnam has a long relationship with sugarcane, yet the country has rarely been associated internationally with premium craft rum. Giang saw an opportunity to change that — not by copying the rum traditions of the Caribbean or other established regions, but by creating something rooted in Vietnam itself.
This meant looking beyond the spirit alone. It meant building a complete story around Vietnamese sugarcane, local farmers, traditional clay jars, native botanicals, coffee, craftsmanship and the distinctive environment of Ha Long.
From the beginning, her ambition was clear: to create a Vietnamese craft spirit that could carry the character of its origin and stand confidently on the international stage.
HaLong Rum was created from that vision. Not simply as a product made in Vietnam, but as a spirit intended to represent Vietnam.
For Giang, every bottle is part of a wider journey — one that connects agriculture with craftsmanship, tradition with modern distilling, and local identity with a global audience. That journey continues today through HaLong Rum and the broader work of HaLong Distillery.
